[Guide] Advice for new players
Welcome

To the unofficial guide for new users on Cubeville. This may be long, but it's probably worth reading.

This is the place for new users who have just joined Cubeville or even Minecraft. This isn't a guide for Minecraft, just a guide as to what to and what not to do when starting out on Cubeville. I'll list some things that new players, newbies, nubs, noobs, whatever you may call them, often do. This guide lists those things (Which were suggested by experienced Cubeville players). Keep in mind that this does NOT replace the official Cubeville tutorial, which can be found by typing "/tut" in-game. Be sure not to use the quotation marks (This is true for ANY command that you see in this tutorial surrounded by quotation marks)

1) When you would like to broadcast a message to everybody on the server, type "/sh <message>" or "/y <message>"instead of just "<message>". The second example is in local. This means that only players within 50 blocks of you will hear you.

2) Instead of shouting that you need food and are hungry, simply travel to the melon farm, located in CVC, or Cubeville City. Just type "/spawn", then turn to your left and walk for a little bit until you see a diamond pickaxe hanging over a fountain to your left. Go straight (you can go around the fountain Tongue) until you're inside a building. You should see rows of melons (or dirt fields). This is the melon farm. If there are any melons that have grown, push the button on a row of melons. This will obliterate the melons and give you melon slices that you can collect and eat.

3) If you see a player doing something like this in global chat: NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!111!!111!!!!!!!one!!111!, it's obviously caps and spam, which are both frowned upon. DO NOT shout "Caps!" or "Spam!" because it ends up making more spam than the original message. Just let the staff handle it and everything will be all right.

4) You may want to consider changing your skin from one of these, if you haven't already.
Find out how to here. (Look under Changing Skins => PC)

5) Remember never to build within 40 blocks of another build.

6) NEVER assume that staff aren't on. Staff can go into vanish mode, so that normal users can't see them. Don't ever do something bad just because you think staff aren't on. (You shouldn't do things against the rules at all)

7) If you'd like to get to the wild to start a home, look at the map and find a spot to set up your home (See piece of advice number 5). Then type "/spawn" and head in the direction of the spot. You may want to stop by the melon farm (See piece of advice number 2) so that you don't get hungry on your way there. Then start building!

I hope you enjoyed these pieces of advice and that it enriched your Cubeville experience. -Phys Smile

RE: [Guide] Advice for new players
I'd love to refer newbies to this thread but I still don't know how to paste links into the minecraft chatbox (still a noob myself). Anyone want to tell me how? xD
Also, I think either a brief explanation on region claiming or a link to a region claiming guide in this thread would really help. That way all advice is in one spot. =)

Just copy the URL here and control+v in-game in the text. Then you're good! Big Grin
