[Guide] Lift Signs
Lift Signs can be used instead of ladders or other means to get between different levels of a building. There are 2 types of Lift Signs: Public (normal) and Private.

General Information (both Public and Private):
Spoiler Expand
There are 3 directions that the lift signs can take:
- [Lift] or {Lift}
- [Lift Up] or {Lift Up}
- [Lift Down] or {Lift Down}

- [Lift Up] and [Lift Down] are the most common.

The captialization doesn't matter for the signs, you can have all lower case, all upper case, or any mix of the 2. The use of [] or {} does matter though, and trying to mix one with the other on the same sign will cause the lift not to function. [] are for Public lifts, and {} are for Private lifts, both of which will be covered below.

To create a lift sign, you will want to place the [Lift], [Lift Up], or [Lift Down] on the 2nd line of the sign. Then, on the floor above or below, depending on where you want to go, you will place anothe sign in the same (X,Z) coordinate as the other sign, as seen below. They must be placed in the blocks directly over one another, or they will not function. The following pictures are an example of a basic 3-floor lift sign setup:
[Image: EV0nG8Y.jpg]

As you have seen on some of these signs, you can put names on the 1st line of the sign. When the 1st line is blank, you will get a generic "Going Up" or "Going Down" message. If you put names on the 1st line, as in the examples, then when you go down to the 2nd floor, you will see "Going to 2nd Floor", or if you go up to the 3rd floor, you will see "Going to 3rd floor".

There are also lift signs that can be used for 1-way travel. The [Lift] sign will allow you to go up or down to that sign, but not back. This allows for the creation of elevator signs, or sets of 1-way signs that you can use to go up only or down only, as seen below:

Those are the basics on lift signs. For information specific to Public lift signs, read the section just below this. For information specific to Private lift signs, skip ahead to that section.

Lift Signs with Buttons
Spoiler Expand
These lift signs also will work with both Public and Private lift signs. The setup of the signs will also need to remain the same, with the signs in the same (X,Z) coordinates, with the direction on the 2nd line, and an optional label on the 1st line. See the General Information section above for more on that..

The setup of these are quite simple. Place the button on whatever side of the block you would like it to be on. Then place the lift sign on the opposite side of the block from the button. If the sign is set up correctly, and it and the button are in the correct places, then when someone presses the button, it should move them as if they used the sign like normal. If it is a private lift sign, then only the owner will be able to press the button and be moved by the lift.

Public Lift Signs:
Spoiler Expand
Public lifts use the [] on the 2nd line when using [Lift Up], [Lift Down], or [Lift]. All of the examples above in the General Information section are of public lift signs. These are the most commonly used lift signs. Anyone may use these signs, whether you want them to or not.

"Locking" Public Lift Signs:
The only way to "lock" these signs so that only certain people are able to use them is to put the sign behind a locked door and add those people to the door (/cprivate and /cmodify), or to have it behind a password-protected door (/cpassword) and tell the password to the people you want to have access.

Private Lift Signs:
Spoiler Expand
Private lift signs use the {} on the 2nd line when using {Lift Up}, {Lift Down}, or {Lift}. The format for the signs is exactly the same as Public lift signs, where the captialization doesn't matter, the Lift message has to be on the 2nd line, and an optional label can go on the 1st line. They also need to be placed in the same (X,Z) coordinates to function. See the General Information section at the top of the post for more information.

Private lift signs only allow the creator to use the lift sign to use the lift. If anyone tries to use the lift, they will be unsuccessful, and get the error message below. This does mean that things can be more complicated with how these particular signs function.

NOTE: There is no way to add anyone to a private lift sign so that the other person may use it. If there is a need to have a lift that multiple people need to use, but not everyone, please see the "Locking" Public Lift Signs section in the Public Lift Signs section.

There are multiple different types of setups that allow private lift signs to function. The most basic is to have both the source and destination lift signs as private.

Another option is to either have the source or the destination sign as a private sign, and the other one can be public.

In this example, though, the 2 private lift signs were created by 2 different people, This means that neither of them will be able to use the lift. If either of them, or anyone else, attempts to use the lift, they will get the same error message as before.

There are particular setups that can allow travel only between certain floors using private lift signs. The following examples show how to set the lifts up so anyone can go up and down between the 2nd and 3rd floors, but only the private lift owner can go up and down between the 1st and 2nd floors.
1 way of limiting access to the 1st floor:

Another way of limiting access to the 1st floor. Both examples will function exactly the same, the only difference is the placement of the private lift sign:

Just like with public lift signs, private lift signs can be 1-way. See the General Information section about making 1-way lift signs. In the following examples, we can see the various ways of making private lift signs.
Note: For simplicity, all of the lift signs are being placed on 1 floor. If you were to use these in-game, you would place them on the different floors, like has been shown in previous examples.

TOP LEFT: Only the owner can go up from 1 to 2, or 2 to 3. Only the owner can go down from 3 to 2, and 2 to 1.
TOP MIDDLE: Only The owner can go down from 3 to 2, or from 2 to 1. Anyone can go up from 1 to 2, or from 2 to 3.
TOP RIGHT: Only the owner can go up from 1 to 2, or from 2 to 3. Anyone can go down from 3 to 2, or from 2 to 1.
BOTTOM LEFT: Only the owner can go up from 1 to 2, or down from 2 to 1. Anyone can go up from 2 to 3, or down from 3 to 2.
BOTTOM MIDDLE: Only the owner can go down from 2 to 1. Anyone can go up from 1 to 2, or up from 2 to 3, or down from 3 to 2.
BOTTOM RIGHT: Only the owner can go up from 1 to 2. Anyone can go up from 2 to 3, or down from 3 to 2, or down from 2 to 1.

These are some simple examples of ways to restrict access to certain floors. Experimenting around with you and a friend is the best way to learn how to work with private lift signs, but if you are really having trouble understanding them, or something is truly not working, and this guide is not answering your question, please feel free to submit a /modreq so Staff can come out an help you!

Hopefully you found this guide helpful in your search into how to make the various types of lift signs and how they work.

I'm AFK. Well, not really. I'm just not paying attention to the game, but don't worry. I'm still paying attention to the game.

RE: [Guide] Lift Signs
Also to note, if you color the first line, i.e. give the floor a name and a color, that name and color will show up in your chat. Some people use those colors in their shops to help identify which floor you are on. Try it, its kinda cool.
